RIP MY BUILD

H—229

Your side project deserves a proper funeral.

RIP MY BUILD is a cemetery for abandoned side projects, where you write an obituary for the thing you stopped building. "Deserves" makes the project the injured party: your dead app is owed a funeral that you still have to hold. That's a gentler ask than admitting you failed. "Proper" carries the accusation, since the usual way a side project ends is a lapsed domain and a canceled hosting plan.

The funeral runs through the whole product. Listings are plots, endings are causes of death you can filter by, submissions pass a groundskeeper before they publish, and a dollar buys a rose for somebody's grave. Most products drop a headline joke by the second section; this one put it in the pricing.

The grey line under the button reads "Permanent page, tracked visits to your next venture, no login." What you're getting is traffic to whatever you build next, in the smallest text on the page. That's worth borrowing whenever the useful half of your pitch is the duller one.

Why this H1 works:

  • A real grave in the hero
the illustrated headstone belongs to an actual dead startup, dates and epitaph included, where a product shot would normally sit

  • The second CTA stays in character
"Pay your respects" moves you down the page without stepping outside the world the headline built

  • Small numbers published anyway
"1 rose left by visitors" in the stat bar feels honest on a launch-week page, where a rounder figure would feel invented

  • The lessons are labeled stolen
ranking postmortems by how often they've been copied makes borrowing one feel like the intended use
