Tether

H—227

Your hands are bored.

Tether is a ball on an elastic rope that hangs off your Mac menu bar, though the headline mentions none of that. It names a physical state you're probably in right now. The eyebrow above it, "A desk toy for Mac", handles the category so the headline doesn't have to.

The part we'd steal is further down. A section titled "The honest competitor" opens with "It's this or your phone", then runs a side by side: three new messages, ten minutes gone, "Wait, what was the question?" against Tether's "Still here. Zero minutes lost." Naming a behavior as the competitor is closer to how the choice happens at minute forty of a meeting.

The comparison holds up because the page refuses to make the product useful. The ball selector is headed "Seven balls. Zero objectives"; the FAQ asks "Is this productivity software?" purely so it can answer "Absolutely not." Most toys lose their nerve at launch and bolt on a focus claim, which would have sunk the comparison, because a toy can beat your phone at killing ten minutes where a productivity app can't.

Why this H1 works:

  • The objection is the bolded half
"your ears stay in the meeting" is the only part of the subhead set in bold

  • Four gestures under the button
"drag it, throw it, cut it, ⌥F to vanish" covers the whole product in four words each, exit route included

  • The page waves you off its own CTA
a sticky note beside "Get Tether" reads "Don't click this", with another beside the ball reading "Yes, this one"

  • Privacy applied to something trivial
"your bounce count stays on your Mac" is far more memorable than a standard no-tracking promise
